Gunfire Reborn drops a roguelite structure and a full RPG skill system onto first-person gunplay, and the gunplay is good enough to make the rest of the formula worth learning. Six heroes, expanded to sixteen across four years of DLC, each carry three skill trees that change how their guns and abilities work from the ground up.
Every weapon rarity changes how a gun handles, on top of its raw numbers: elemental procs stack and combine, and Occult Scrolls layer run-specific modifiers onto a build already being customized hero by hero. Four-player co-op hands out its own loot per player instead of forcing a scramble over drops, and the cel-shaded art still reads well in the middle of a screen full of effects.
Duoyi Games has shipped four paid expansions since 2022, each adding two heroes and four weapons, on a schedule the community credits as unusually reliable for a studio this size. Ninety-three percent of over a hundred thousand reviewers rate it Very Positive, ticking up to ninety-six among English-language reviews, with recent sentiment holding in the low eighties.
The early biomes repeat themselves more than the later ones do, and the roguelite loop leans harder on stacking stats than on run-to-run environmental variety. Co-op has a real balance problem: dying means losing everything that run's loot found, enemy health scales up to seven hundred percent at full squad, and getting knocked down leaves a player exposed for an uncomfortably long revive window.
Some Occult Scroll drops don't synergize with whatever build is running, so they land as dead weight instead of a real choice. The story is skippable, and the English localization still shows rough edges years after launch.
Buy it. Solo or with a full squad, the build variety and the gunplay both hold up, and Duoyi has kept adding reasons to come back.
